Fact #954: The East River isn’t actually a river, but is a salt water tidal strait.

It connects the Long Island Sound (the large body of water that sits north of Long Island) and Upper New York bay (the area of water that sits in between Brooklyn, New Jersey, Staten Island, and Manhattan).
