Fact #859: One knot is a unit of speed equal to one nautical mile per hour, or 1.852 kmh or 1.151 mph.

The term derives from counting the number of knots in the line that unspooled from the reel of a ship log in a specific time, the original way to measure speed of a vessel through water.
