Fact #320: France has renamed the word hashtag to “mot-dièse,” meaning “sharp word” in English. All government correspondence and legislation involving the word hashtag will be required to use mot-dièse instead, to keep French relevant in the age of the Internet, where most widespread terms have their origins in English.
